Light Post Bases from Pole Base Improve Install and Aesthetics at New Athletic Stadium

After decades of Fighting Northmen athletics, Petoskey High School was in desperate need of a new stadium. With 40 new site lights and light post bases across the project, the contractor needed an efficient solution for their foundations.

THE CHALLENGE

In the summer of 2015, Petoskey Public Schools broke ground on a brand new athletic stadium. With the current stadium miles away from campus and unable to accommodate the masses of "Fighting Northmen" fans, a new facility was desperately needed.

But the new stadium site was very large, requiring 40 new lights for multiple parking lots, sidewalks, and a roadway. Completing the installation on a tight deadline became the project's main challenge.

THE SOLUTION

John Richards and his team at Atlas Electric were responsible for installing the 40 new lights and decided on light post bases from Pole Base. A precast concrete foundational system, Pole Base had a speedy installation process, superior aesthetics, and high-grade concrete.

"We were able to save a lot of time and effort by using precast bases on this project. The installation went quickly, and we even had the option to install the light poles the same day as the bases," explained Richards.

Utilizing precast light post bases allowed Richards to work on his own schedule, despite poor weather and site conditions. This also made them more efficient with their time, which translated to finishing the project on-time and on-budget.

"Using precast was convenient on this project because the bases were delivered on site, ready to be installed. We didn't have to wait for the weather to clear, or a concrete truck, or worry about putting together the form on site, which saved us time," Richards said.

THE OUTCOME

The Petoskey Stadium Project, completed in the summer of 2016, is a fantastic addition to both the high school athletic program and the city as a whole.

The site lighting foundations provide a modern look with the Round Rusticated texture and help differentiate the site from other local projects that may harbor defects such as spiral lines from cardboard tubing, excessive bug holes from poor vibration, or discoloration from poor quality concrete or protruding rebar.

Overall, the stadium is a beautiful addition to the local landscape and the city will be proud to support the Fighting Northmen for generations to come in this outstanding facility.
