Frequently Asked Questions
Because poured-in-place foundations have been the norm for years, just thinking about switching over to precast foundations can raise questions. We've tried to address some of the most frequently asked questions about using Pole Base here, as well as on the pages of our website. If you have any unanswered questions, don't hesitate to reach out to your sales rep to get the answers you need!
1. If I need a very specific bolt configuration, conduit layout, or dimensions for my light pole bases, can I get the exact base from you?
Absolutely. Every Pole Base product is made to order for that specific reason. We are capable of building foundations with diameters of 12, 18, 24, or 30 inches and ranging in height from 3.5 feet for taxiway bases to 13 feet for light pole bases. Conduit templates and bolt patterns are built according to your specifications, so customization is always possible. Check out the technical resources page for typical details and drawings.
2. How heavy are these bases?
Pole Base products can range greatly in size, so the weight varies, too. Depending on your dimensions and the texture you select, your Pole Base precast foundations could range from 1,000 to 8,800 pounds. Generally, bases with 18-inch diameters range from 1,000 to 3,000 pounds, bases with 24-inch diameters range from 1,800 to 5,800, and bases with 30-inch diameters range from 2,800 to 8,800 pounds. If you're looking to narrow in on the weight of bases for your project, reach out to your sales rep for further insight!
3. What kinds of equipment could I use to inventory and install these bases?
You'll need a forked piece of equipment to offload your bases from the delivery truck and then stage on your jobsite. From there, the Pole Base lifting plate makes it easy to install the bases with a variety of equipment such as a forklift, excavator, loader, skytrack, crane, or boom truck. If you're curious just how easy Pole Base is to install, watch our installation video!
4. How much does it cost to ship these bases to the site?
Shipping costs are calculated on a project-by-project basis to give you the best possible rate. Fill out the "Get a Quote" form with the details of your project to get the most accurate shipping estimate from your sales rep!
5. How long does it take to install these bases?
Installing a precast foundation for your project's site lighting, sign foundation, or taxiway base will be significantly faster with Pole Base than with alternative methods. Installing a Pole Base product generally takes 30 minutes to 1.5 hours per base, depending on soil conditions and how long it takes to dig the hole. Visit the installation overview page to see how easy it is to auger, place, and backfill.
6. What textures or looks are available in your product line?
Pole Base offers multiple combinations of shape and texture for precast foundations, and you can get further customization from there. Check out our texture page to see what look would match your project best!
7. What is the lead time on Pole Base products?
Pole Base products are built to your specifications, so lead time will vary from project to project. Typically for light pole bases, J-bolts are sent to the Pole Base production facilities from the electrical contractor, and the Pole Base team builds the bases according to the specification from there, which usually takes about two to four weeks. Your best bet is to reach out to your sales rep to get an idea about the timing for your request.
8. Do you have products other than light pole bases?
We sure do. Pole Base is a versatile product that can be used for precast foundations in a number of applications. In addition to light pole bases, Pole Base has already been used for columns, sign foundations, gazebo and carport bases, even flagpoles and specialty pipe supports at breweries.
